It is with deep sadness and shock that we have received the news of the sudden passing of Hon. Beth Wahito, a specially elected Member of the Nyandarua County Assembly from Njabini Kiburu Ward, through a tragic accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Road.
Hon. Wahito was a courageous and committed leader whose political journey spanned over three decades. She stepped into leadership at a time when women faced many barriers in politics and public service.
Throughout her career—as a councellor in the defunct Nyandarua County Council, a specially elected Member of the First and the Third County Assembly—she led with courage, strength, and determination. She was not afraid to speak up for what she believed was right and worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of the underserved in her community.
She held leadership roles in several political parties including the Democratic Party (DP), and later as Chairperson of NARC-Kenya in Nyandarua. In these roles, she championed values of justice, fairness, gender equality, and good governance. More recently, she served as the Kinangop Constituency Coordinator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In the Assembly, Hon. Wahito served as Vice-Chairperson of the Health Services Committee and a Member of the Public Works, Roads, Transport, Housing and Energy Committee, the Members’ Welfare, Catering and Library Committee, and the Special Funds Accounts Committee.
Above all, Hon. Wahito was a loving mother, a guardian to many, and a proud grandmother. Her warmth, bold spirit, and fearless commitment to public service will remain etched in our hearts.
On behalf of the Nyandarua County Assembly family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the people of Njabini Kiburu and Kinangop. May you find comfort and strength in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
We honour Hon. Wahito’s life of service and her unmatched courage. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
